80 Million Year Old Shark, Believed to be Extinct, Found in Japan - ALIVE !
Megaladon is the Largest Shark ever to have lived. He was so large in fact, that he could have fitted a grown up man of 180cm (6ft) into his mouth - Standing Up ! Megaladon was anywhere between 20 and 30 metres long (60-90ft). He was so big that his normal food was Whales. He is even bigger then most whales today, but not all.
Megaladon was similar to today's Great White. Whilst scientists are unsure how close a relative they are, there is almost no doubt at all that they are actually related. Other than the difference in size, he doesn't seem to have changed very much. In comparison to other creatures, most sharks evolve very slowly, because no improvement is normally necessary. They all have an excellent chance of survival, compared to other creatures because they are the hunters, not the hunted. They are already stronger, faster and meaner than just about all other creatures in the sea (and always have been), so why change?
